Burial Vaults

Burial Vault Showroom

Burial Vaults, or Outer Interment Receptacles, are protective containers that house the casket.  They are usually constructed of solid concrete lined with a strentex liner.  Burial Vaults are sealed and lined, protecting the casket from the weight of the earth and the elements around it once interred in an underground burial plot.  Lined Burial Vaults also keep water out and prevent the ground around it from settling.  Vaults are usually installed in the open grave just preceding the burial.  After the graveside service, the casket is then lowered into the Burial Vault and a cover is then placed on the base of the vault which is then sealed.  Last, the grave is filled in with soil, compacted and seeded or sodded.

Burial Vault Diagram
Burial Vaults can be an important investment to make for a burial.  The importance of a lined Burial Vault is illustrated in the diagram to the right.  When caskets are interred without a Burial Vault, as the diagram shows, it can over time become dented or even partially crushed by the weight of the earth pressing down on it.  Also, as even in the case of an unlined burial vault, water may penetrate the casket, especially if the casket used is a non-sealer casket or of wood composition.  However, if a lined Burial Vault is used, the casket will surely be protected from the pressure of the earth around it and from potential water damage.  Papavero Funeral Home offers a variety of lined Wilbert Burial Vaults ranging in style, material and price.
