All stainless steel caskets, both Premium and Basic grades, are rust-resistant. Many of them are protected by Cathodic Protection, a system that uses a built-in magnesium bar to guard against rust and corrosion. When corrosion sets in, the magnesium shield is sacrificed, since magnesium is oxidized more easily than the iron in the steel, preventing the formation of rust. This even prevents rust from occurring on the outer surface of the casket. The difference in Premium and Basic Grades of Stainless Steel lies in the amount of magnesium component in the casket unit.
